Inside this barn was a brilliant sliding door roller design that doesn't need bearings. Later, away from the barn, a bonfire.

Rain this morning, a welcome sight since it has been quite some time since it rained last. I'd say the crop conditions here look pretty good. There are spots in the soybean fields that have a very low population, caused by germination problems when things were too wet after they were planted. Soybeans just don't germinate well in soil that is completely saturated for week after week. One of our concerns at this point is the timing of pollination aligning with the peak Japanese beetle population. They seem to like eating the silks on corn ears. That has the potential to be a major problem.

The corn is 6 feet tall and looks quite healthy. The soybeans are turning a yellow-ish color in some places, I think related to being too dry. Soybeans don't have as deep of a root system as the corn does, and it hasn't rained for about two weeks. The corn is currently trying to shoot brace roots, which need to penetrate the soil, and we will need some rain to soften to crust to allow that to happen. Temperature has been 80-90 degrees for a while.
