These pictures show the process of soldering surface-mount components to a circuit board. You start with the bare board, then add solder paste to the copper pads where you will be attaching components. The solder paste has a consistency similar to tooth paste. Then you add the surface mount components, which will stick to the solder paste. Next you place the board in a skillet on the stove and heat it until the solder melts. Once it cools, add any through-hole components and solder those in place using a regular soldering iron. That's it. The circuit shown here is a prototype of a grain temperature monitor that is solar powered and uploads data via a wireless Internet connection.
