Done with the chisel plow for the year. Checking out the 65' NH3 bar that the local COOP is pulling this year.

Harvest 2012 is now finished. The tillage season has started. Also of note, Romney was in town tonight.

I predicted on September 7th that the POTUS would be back to check on the harvest progress. Guess who was in town again today? Ok, officially it was a campaign event. The picture is one of the cargo planes leaving town after the equipment was all packed up. Also, there is a new mule on the ranch this fall. Yes, that chisel plow is far too small for it.

Finally made it out to the field tonight for an hour, although it was after dark.

The first two pictures show a very strange yield map. This field used to be two parcels, but has been farmed as one unit for about 10 years now. This year, the south half was a failure, while the north half was good. The entire field is flat, with a sandy base. The yield break is exactly where the fence line used to be. The only cause we've been able to come up with was some uncommon fertilizer that was spread on the south half of the field back when these were two different fields. There have been several other years where this showed a slight yield drag, but this is catastrophic. Sometimes free fertilizer is a mistake.

Soybeans were finished last night, both machines are swapped back to corn now. I finally got to spend some time in a combine today - it was the first time I have run one all season.

In the first picture, that is the moon to the left of the tower. Otherwise, the combines keep chewing up the acres.
