We finally received some rain today, but it came with some wind. This power pole will need to be re-set, and there is now some flat-ish corn in the area.

It's still dry here.

I met Ed Schafer tonight, former Governor of North Dakota and former US Secretary of Agriculture.

The corn leaves were rolling this afternoon with the temperature in the upper 80s, full sun, and not much wind. The forecast for the next week shows temperatures into the 90s and little chance of rain. I know it has been at least 4 weeks since I mowed my lawn. The raspberries were starting to ripen a week ago, but they are now aborting all the berries. It's dry here.

90 degrees, windy, and dry. The crops are not enjoying this weather.

It rained enough to settle the dust for a few hours.

Another cement pour, this time for a small grain bin that is currently sitting near the new bins.

A couple of the guys got to check things out from overhead via the basket on the big crane. At 186 feet up, it provides a nice view. The smoke in the 4th picture is a fire at the landfill in Iowa City, approximately 19 miles away.

Another crane at the bin site, this time to set the rest of the tower and grain legs. We called the local crane company last week to get on the schedule. While the parts aren't heavy, the crane cannot be parked close to the tower, so something with size is needed just for the reach. A 90 ton crane would have worked, but the cranes that size seem to be tied up on other jobs. They sent out a 300 ton crane instead. This crane is so oversized for this job that they didn't even bring all the counter-weights for it. It has 220,000 lbs of counter-weights, but only has 78,000 on it for this job. Even at that, it will still lift 10,000 lbs at 125 feet out.

The rain we got was very much needed, but probably only buys us a week of warm weather before we're back to bone dry dirt.
