As the sun sets on another snowy winter day, we roll into a new year. Despite the weather challenges, it was a good year.

We have a slight mouse problem in the corn crib this year, as you can see by the grain scattered on the floor. This gives me a reason to build and test a mouse trap design that I saw several years ago. I've been wanting to build one for a while, but it is overkill for most situations. The beauty is that it can capture multiple mice without needing to be reset. Essentially it is a tin can on a wire, coated in peanut butter (or some other deliciously smelly food), and a ramp to get near the can, but just far enough away they have to jump to it. Below the can is a bucket containing just enough water that they cannot jump out.

The snow has stopped, the wind has slowed, and the sun is up. Lovely winter scenery.

First snow of the year, accompanied by 40 MPH wind.

It was 50°F yesterday and an overnight low of 40°F. It is currently raining, which is great because we need the moisture. We're a week away from the winter solstice and it doesn't feel like winter yet.

We had a light dusting of snow this morning, but it didn't stick around long.

Loaded some trucks today. There was almost no line at ADM, which was nice. The weather has been freakishly nice this week. Yesterday's high was 68°F, and today is lovely as well. I guess this is the positive part of global warming.

I capitalized on the nice weather by washing the car.
