Different hybrids of soybeans will mature to drastically different colors. This picture is what you get when half of the planter is filled with one hybrid, and the other half is filled with another hybrid.

We were able to get back into the corn this morning, but a noon storm shut us down again.

Woke up to the sound of rain today. Time to get caught up on everything that has been skipped this week.

Back in 18.5% moisture corn, and we're quickly running out of early maturity corn.

I'm starting to see a few soybeans fields that, from the road, look ready to cut. That means they are about a week out yet. There are a lot of fields that still have some green leaves. As for corn, the driest we have found yet was 15.5% moisture. We actually ran the grain dryer for a while today without any LP, just air, and that was still taking 1 point out. Any extra heat at all and the corn is over dried.

Harvest started today. Corn is about 19% moisture, which is quite dry for this early in the season. Finished one field and took the headlands off another.

These soybeans are probably about 2 weeks away from being ready to harvest. It looks like we'll get started on harvest earlier this year than normal, which means we'll probably be fighting green stems in the soybeans. The combines are ready to go and the grain cart got hitched up today. We do have some corn that would be ready to pick, but with the early season, we would like to take advantage of some natural drying. Every day we wait saves us a significant amount of money on fuel we would be using to dry the corn.
