We've been shut down since the 25th, and there is more rain on the way for tonight. While we wait for the fields to dry, we have been hauling some grain.

We would have finished planting corn today if the rain hadn't moved in. Just light sprinkles so far.

Planting Corn

2009-4-20
Planted about 100 acres this morning, but some light rain showed up late this morning and got things just sticky enough to shut us down. A couple hours of sun tomorrow should be enough to get things moving again.

Started planting corn today. The soil conditions are perfect, and the warm weather feels great. This is our new planter, which will plant 24 rows of corn (30 inch spacing between rows, total of 60 feet wide).

We've been spraying and incorporating Treflan for the past couple days, and finished that up today. The weather has been beautiful.
2009-4-12 - Hobby Project: 1/64th scale 8120 lighting:
I bought a few toy 8120s at the farm progress show last summer, and decided to customize one of them with some lights to see how it would look. There are 2 tail lights which are 3mm red LEDs (Mouser part# 593-VAOL-3MAE2) and 10 other lights which are 3mm white LEDs (Mouser part# 593-VAOL-3MWY4). There are 6 lights in the roof array, 2 after-cut lights, and 2 rear lights. I have this model on my model railroad, so I used a Digitrax TF4 decoder to control the lighting. The cab lights are one circuit, the tail lights on another circuit, and there is a third circuit for the after-cut and rear lights. This is definitely the scale equivalent of the HID lighting package. The white LEDs are bright.

We started doing field work today. We sprayed Treflan on and then incorporated it. Probably covered about 300 acres. We're also still working on waterways, trying to repair the damage done from rain last year.

We've been working on waterways the last couple days. After the flooding last year, we have a few that need some work. Some of the neighbors have been putting in tile, and just today I saw someone putting NH3 on. Snow is in the forecast (again), so it looks like we're going to lose another week. The days on the calendar keep clicking off, and some people would like to be planting corn in 10 days. At this point, I don't think the soil temperature is going to be high enough by that time.
