We finished up the wheat around here yesterday afternoon and then loaded all the equipment so we would be ready to move in the morning. We had breakfast this morning at a local church before we left town. We were able to take everything except one combine and the MX240 with grain cart.

The weather has cooled off to the 80s and 90s lately. We have been running non-stop till this afternoon when we got some light rain. We should be going again tomorrow. I've been running the number 2 combine almost exclusively and have now cut just over 500 acres. As for the territory here, it is flat enough to see 10 miles in any direction, yet there are some terraces in the fields. That becomes a challenge to adjust the header height and tilt to carve around the hills and make the cuts even. Also, nobody in this region seems to own sheds to put machinery or vehicles in. Everything sits outside year round and of course has a lot of paint fade. As we are driving around, I have found a lot of cotton in the area and some corn. The corn is anywhere from 1 to 4 feet tall. BTW, I'm now fully accustomed to food from sonic and subway.

Update as of 5/28/2005: Tom Childers was around that day and took a bunch of pictures. Here is his photo album from that day.
We started on wheat this afternoon. It was over 100 degrees out today. It took a while to get the paint off the new headers so the crop will feed properly. I now put the first 3 separator hours on that 2388. The local elevator had one of their grain legs break down which slowed the trucks down. Everything got filled up around 9 tonight and so we quit for supper. Yields look to be around 60 bu/a which is much higher than was expected. The test weight seems to be up around 60 too.

This morning it was about 65 degrees with a light breeze. Awesome weather. This afternoon it was more like 90 degrees with a 25 MPH wind. We unloaded all the equipment this morning and hooked up the trucks to the correct trailers. Someone sampled the wheat and it was 15.5% so we will wait another day. This town is just filled with other harvesters. Mostly John Deere and New Holland, but we did see a Massey drive through town.
